withnormalrunningconditions.Specialcouplingsmay
havedifferentinstructionsordrawings.
3.Wheninitiallymountingthecoupling,the
misalignmentmaybeoneandonehalftimesthe
maximumpermissiblemisalignmentshowninthe
catalog.Inspecthubbores,shafts,andkeyways
makingsuretherearenoburrs.Cleanhubboresand
shafts.Standardcontrolflexcouplinghubsaresupplied
withslightclearance
fit(seecatalog).

4.Installthecouplingontotheshafts.Itisrecom‐
mendedthattheendsofbothshaftsbeflushwiththe
endofeachhub.Iftheshaftextendspastthehubface
verifythereisenoughclearancebetweenshaftandflex
discthattheshaftwillnotcontacttheflexdiscduring
operation.Tightenoneclamphubsocketheadcap
screwtolockthehubontotheshaft.Seethetablefor
thepropertighteningtorque.
5.Adjusthubseparationtodimension“C”specifiedin
theTableanddiagram.TightenSecondhubtotheshaft.
6.Aligntheshaftswithinthelimitsforparalleland
angularmisalignmentspecifiedonpagetwo.Forbest
alignmentresults,usealaseralignmenttoolordial
indicator.
Note:Aligningtheshaftsascloselyaspossibleatthe
timeofinitialinstallationwillreducenoiseandallowthe
couplingextracapacityformisalignmentsandloads
whichwilloccurduringoperationoverthelifeofthe
connectedequipment.Installingandoperatingcoupling
athigherdegreesofmisalignmentispossible(see
catalogratings),butwillgenerallyreducethelifeofthe
flexdisc.
Couplingandshaftalignmentshouldbechecked
periodicallyduetofoundationsettling,equipment
shifting,etc.Alignmentshouldbere‐checkedafterthe
firstseveralhoursofoperation.
Caution:Rotatingequipmentispotentially
dangerousandshouldbeproperlyguarded.Itisthe
responsibilityofthemachinebuilder,user,oroperator
tofollowallapplicablesafetycodesandprovidea
suitableguard.Makesurethemachineis“lockedout”
andcannotbeaccidentlystartedduringinstallationor
maintenanceofcoupling.
